Few things are as amazing and as pleasant to look at as a man in a well-tailored suit. I could almost kiss every man who looks proper in a good suit, well... OK, maybe not but you get the point right?
Totally agree!!
Before you make a costly purchase on a suit that you won't like, read the following tips on what makes a suite a "well-tailored" suit.
1. Unless you have done it before, take someone with you: Sales people are paid to lie and they will therefore tell you that you look good in almost anything you try on! Be weary of the sales guy.
2. Know why you are buying a suit: This is very important. You will obviously need different suits for wearing to work, weddings & formal functions, job interviews and the kind that you might want to wear with sneakers. For your wear-once-a-week-to-work type of suit; you want to keep it dark and classic. For weddings or any other formal functions; black or navy is the ultimate. For job interviews; you don't want to wear the priciest suit in the store, a "simple" suit that will not make you look overdressed will do. Lastly, for the kind of suit that you will want to sometimes wear with sneakers or just wear the jacket with jeans; a slimmer cut makes all the difference.
3. Know you size: It is very important to not assume your suite size and to note things such as the shoulders of the suit you want to buy - the shoulder pads should never protrude beyond your own shoulders. The chest area as well is very vital, you should be able to button the jacket without straining and at the same time, there shouldn't be too much space between the button and your chest. The length of the jacket should allow for you to cup your fingers under the sides of the jacket when your arms are hanging straight down.
4. Aaaand lastly, think about the style: Style in this case includes the number of buttons you want, the vents at the back of the jacket, the type of lapel (notch or peak lapel) and most importantly, the material - trust me, nothing ruins a well designed suit more than the wrong material!
Since we are still on the topic, may we have a moment of silence for these two men who look absolutely amazing in suits - Mr Jigga and Chuck Bass!!! * * I thank you!
I hope these tips will make all the difference.
