A Right Royal Affair

Durban will once again come to life this weekend. The Vodacom July is this weekend and this year's theme is:  "A Right Royal Affair". I am not going to the Durban July this year but do have a few tips for those going there (for the first time).

Durban July Tips:
  • Please honor the theme. Look the part.
  • If you still do not have it yet, get a "short" dress. Trust me, you do not want to be walking on the grass with a long-ass dresses.
  • Comfort is key. This applies for both shoes and dress.
  • You will need sunglasses and sunscreen (Durban sun is not your friend).
  • Do not wear too much make-up.
  • Even if you are in the marques that will be providing free alcohol to its patrons, DO NOT get too drunk. You, your dress, heels and drunkenness is not a good look.
  • Have FUN but make sure you are still energetic by the time the after parties start!

Some of us have to off-ramp on the N1 LOL.!

Kimora Lee On DESTINY Magazine Cover

I don't think I can admire Kimora Lee more than I do now. She is on the cover of the July Issue of DESTINY Magazine. She talks about how she has gotten where she is in life and her new motto for this year (post Baby Phat). I love her soooo VERY much and I aspire to be the woman she is.

Meet Samkelo Ndlovu

She is an actress, a musician, an aspiring director, she is beautiful and she loves fashion so.....that's more than reason enough for her to be featured on this blog.

I first saw her on Zone 14 (airs on SABC 1) and I thought 'damn, she pretty'! From then on, I started to take an interest on her, turns out she is a really talented person, yeah, she ain't just a pretty face.

I stopped watching Generations when I got DSTV (lol) but I hear she now acts there. Well, if you want to know what she gets up to, follow her on Twitter: @The_Samu_Rai and you can check out her pictures here.

Its always great to see new faces (especially if they are beautiful) on the South African entertainment industry. Watch out, Samkelo is the next BIG thing...BOOM!!

The First Lady Of Style Lands In SA

Last night, The First Lady of The USA arrived here in South Africa. She was with daughters Maila and Sasha. Apparently, this is her first solo (without Barack Obama) visit to Africa.

I've always admired Michelle Obama's dress style, she always keeps it classy in a very understated way.

They (she and the kids) will be meeting with Nelson Mandela and Graca Machel as well as with President Jacob Zuma and then jet off to Botswana.

I hope they will enjoy their stay in Africa.

Damn I Wish I Owned That!

My Friend Is Following Her Fashion Dream (Warm Story)

This morning I woke up happy, in spite of the scary nightmare I had last night. I checked my BBM as we were driving to work and saw my fashion forward friend (she has contributed articles to this blog several times), Ndume's new BBM avatar. On the pic, she was wearing this lovely jacket that I knew I just had to have.

Tres Chic!

A few chats later, I learn that Ndume bought a sewing machine and is taking fashion design a 'lil more seriously', as she put it. Oh and she is going to give me one of the fabulous jackets, she bought two (you won't believe how costly it was and how happy I am!!!).

Why am I blogging about this?, you might be asking yourself. Well, I absolutely love it when people are brave enough to follow their dreams and passions. I couldn't be more happier and excited for Ndume, I do hope that she takes her fashion design more serious than just a "lil serious".

Lesson: The Universe (or whatever higher power you believe in) does listen and if you want it bad enough, there is absolutely nothing (but yourself) stopping you from getting it.

Go Figure!!

Mr West Is In The Building

Firstly, The Kokonut Stylist would like to wish Kanye West a happy 34th birthday...many happy returns to you Mr West.

OK, now that we've gotten that out of the way, here's the exciting news; Kanye West is working on his very own high-end fashion line! According to reports, Kanye is currently living in Paris and working hard on the fashion line, Pastelle, which will have merchandise for both men and women. It is said that the initial show for his collection will be in September 2011.
Recognize this label, its gonna be BIG!

After working with Louis Vuitton on a sneakers range, his own clothing line was only a natural progression.

Uber, uber stylish!

He is on another level of stylish, not many men can pull off animal print so well.

Sneak peak from Kanye's fashion line.

Sooo excited, if there is a person to deliver high-end fashion, it is Kanye as he is the epitome of style. Wish him all the success this world has to offer.

*Visit PastelleBlog.com to stay on the loop.

Men's Winter Fashion

Winter is undoubtedly my favorite season of the year. We get to dress up everyday without appearing overdressed *PLUS* there is nothing sexier than a man clad in proper winter clothes.

Here are some must have items for fashion forward men for winter:

*Trench Coat: When it comes to investing in a trench coat, spare no expense and detail is everything.

*Scarf: Only two words exist for men in scarfs; very sexy!

NB!! Those Arabic scarfs are a HUGE NO NO! Major fashion faux pas and so 2000 and late.

*Men boots: These definitely look better if they do not go higher than just over the ankles.

So men, go get your key winter items: trench coats, scarfs and men boots.

I Simply Cannot!

I'm happily in a relationship with Pharrell (even though he doesn't know this yet) and damn this man makes me W-E-A-K!! Look at how clean he looks. I don't have a crush on him, I'm in love. Damn! *wipes drool*

Zimbabwe Born Model Is New Face Of Louis Vuiton

How awesome does a person have to be in order to be the global face of a brand as prominent as Louis Vuitton? Well, Zimbabwe born Nyasha Matonhondze is that awesome chick as she is the new face of Louis Vuitton.

Her name means "mercy" in Shona and the drop dead gorgeous 16 year old (I know) said the amazing news didn't hit her until she was in the Limo taking pictures for the campaign.

Wow, congratulations to Nyasha for such a huge achievement at a young age. I cannot even begin to imagine all the amazing Louis Vuitton merchandise she will have, damn!

Top Shop Coming To SA!

This is no official press release but if you love clothes like I do, you will be overjoyed to know that Top Shop is coming to SA mid July this year.

According to my reliable sources (this being the Top Shop SA Facebook group), they will be opening a shop right here in Johannesburg. Finally, we can have a shop that provides good quality and great style at affordable prices. I've started saving all my grocery money, works out perfectly because come mid-July, I will be skinny and have enough money to shop..P-E-F-E-C-T!! LOL.

Until such great news is confirmed, let us save money and hope its true. Mara, how amazing would it be if Top Shop really opened here in Jozi?

I Have A Dream - My Fashion Dream

Before you go "there she goes sharing her unrealized dreams with the whole world" LOL, calm down and let me finish.

I won't divulge the details much but I have a fashion dream *cues Martin Luther's "I have a dream speech"*. I dream of creating a fashion legacy that outlives me, pretty much like what Coco Chanel did and 40 years after she passed on, the Chanel label is still prestigious and making millions of dollars year after year.

Mmmmm *thinking*. After I finish my Master's Degree in IT this December, I will have more time to work on my fashion dream. I honestly cannot wait. Let's!!
